This past Saturday, the boys’ and girls’ track and field teams opened up their indoor season at Anderson University.  The indoor season does not have a lot of the “normal” track events, but the Golden Eagles were able to perform well in their first competition.

The freshmen did a great job in their first high school meet, as did several other athletes new to track.  The goal of the indoor meets is to end up ranked in the top 24 for each event in the 1A-3A schools, which qualifies for a spot at the indoor state championship later this month.  Full rankings can be found at https://www.directathletics.com/lists/track/1429_1788.html.  Currently ranked in the top 10 for their events:  (#1) the distance medley relay team – Paige Schemanske, Emily Zlatniski, Maddie Youngman, Megan Slamkowski; (#3) 4×800 relay team – Bella Bucklew, Lucia Perez, Amanda Schafer, Madeline Youngman; (#5) 3200 run – Megan Slamkowski; (#6) distance medley relay team – Patrick Berger, Jackson Street, Will Young, Quinn Gallagher; (#7) 3200 run – Quinn Gallagher; (#8) 4×200 relay team – Julia Quinn, Kelsie Smith, Claire Sherfick, Laila Dilts; and (#9) 4×400 relay team – Grace Gjerde, Sarah VanMeter, Hailey Brown, and Jenny Cech.

The teams will be back in action this Saturday at Anderson University again for the Patriot Invitational starting at 3 pm.
